Pops’ Kayak Adventure – Blue Cypress Lake

Pops’ Kayak Adventure – Blue Cypress Lake

Hi my favorite grandkids!

Guess what? I’m not camping anymore — I’m staying with Aunt Pammy in Okeechobee! This morning I woke up early and drove one whole hour to get to Blue Cypress Lake so I could be on the water at sunrise.

But… the sky was mostly overcast with gloomy rolling  clouds, so I didn’t really get to see the sunrise. Every once in a while the sun would peek through and make the water sparkle like magic! There was a breezy wind that made the lake a little choppy, and the wind kept getting stronger as the day went on. My pedal kayak rocked and rolled a bit, but it was still lots of fun!

I slowly meandered through the giant cypress trees like I was on a nature treasure hunt. The lake was absolutely gorgeous! I paddled right between the big cypress trees that looked like they were standing on stilts. It felt like floating through a fairy forest.

But the best part? The ospreys! There were so many of them — a mind-blowing number! They were soaring high in the sky, sitting on nests, and busy feeding their baby ospreys protected in their nest. I saw them diving for fish — SPLASH! — even with the choppy water. It was like watching a giant bird show just for me!

It turned into more of a sightseeing tour than a fishing trip… but guess what? I still caught one small largemouth bass! He was feisty and jumped around before I let him go.

This lake is one of the prettiest places I’ve ever kayaked. Gliding quietly through all those cypress trees with ospreys everywhere (and a little wind making it exciting) made me feel like I was in a nature movie.

What do you think would be more fun — catching lots of fish or seeing hundreds of big birds and exploring a magical cypress forest on a breezy day?

Draw me a picture of Pops in the kayak with tall cypress trees, flying ospreys, and the sun trying to peek through the clouds! I would love to see your drawings when I get home..

Tight lines and big smiles!

Love,

Pops the Kayak Explorer 🎣🦅🌲
