Hi my favorite grandkids!
Today was my last day here in this area and it was kick back day from the very beginning!
I slept in like a lazy lion and didn’t get on the water until the sun was already up and smiling. The weather was beautiful again — sunny skies and just a little cool breeze. But the tide was so LOW that my pedal kayak was basically stuck in the mud! I had to get out and carefully walk my sweet pampered kayak through the shallow water.
SQUISH! SQUELCH! My feet sank up to my ankles in yucky, gooey mud. I looked like a silly pops pretending to be a swamp monster! New game 😬
When I finally reached the oyster bars, the water was so shallow the oysters were sticking up more than a foot in the air like rocky shark teeth! I parked my kayak and walked around the whole bar casting my line. I tripped and stumbled like a clown on ice skates, but somehow I never fell. Pop’s ninja balance skills saved the day! 🤣
While I was out there looking silly, a beautiful bald eagle flew right over me… twice! He was probably laughing at me. I wanted to take a picture so bad, but silly Grandpa forgot his phone in the truck AND left the GoPro in the kayak. Oops! (I did get a picture of the eagle from yesterday though — I’m adding it here!)
Oh! And guess what else? I saw those mystery fish with the big fins again! There were three of them again. I wonder if they’re the same ones from yesterday — they would’ve had to swim like 10 miles! Those fish must be able to swim like pops.
I made a video of them so you can watch to see what kind they are. Did you figure it out yet? Tell me!
After all that stumbling and eagle-watching, I finally started catching fish! I landed six fish total. Three or four were big enough to keep for dinner… but I didn’t have my grill or cooking stuff, so I gave them all a big kiss and let them swim away. “See you later, gator!”
Since it’s my last day, I decided to head back early, relax at camp, write this silly story for you, and start packing up. Three days of adventures with my kayak was just perfect! I might add one more tomorrow closer to Aunt Pammy and Niecy.
What do you think was the silliest part of my day? Walking in the mud like a swamp monster? Tripping on the oysters? Or forgetting my phone like you would expect from pops?
Draw me a picture of pops covered in mud, the eagle laughing at me, or those mystery fin fish! I can’t wait to see your drawings when I get home.
Tight lines, big laughs, and lots of love!
See you soon,
Pops the Silly Kayak Fisherman 🎣🦅🐟😂
