Grandpa’s Fishing Adventure – Day 1

Hi my favorite grandkids!

Guess what? I finally put my kayak back in the water today — and it felt AWESOME!

It was like seeing an old friend again. The weather was perfect: not too windy and much cooler than I thought it would be. Just right for fishing!

I started super early at 7:00 in the morning when everything was quiet and peaceful. I pedaled straight to the oyster bars and — SPLASH! — right away I caught a beautiful 14-inch trout! He was shiny and strong and put up a good fight.

After that things slowed down. I hooked several more trout, but they kept slipping away. Why? Because Grandpa forgot something important… I lost my fishing net on my last trip and never replaced it! 😅 I really needed that net today. Lesson learned!

I had a wonderful time pedaling all around Goose Creek Bay. I visited the oyster bars in the northeast, cruised by Patty’s Island, and stopped at another oyster bar just northwest of it. The water was sparkling, birds were flying overhead, and it felt great to be back exploring. I even got out of my kayak and walked all around one of the oyster bars. I'm glad I didn't forget to stake down my kayak because it was still there when I got back.

The funniest part? Two other kayakers left the ramp just a few minutes after me. They went to the same northeast oyster bars… and they caught a bunch! They got several redfish and trout, including a giant 23-inch trout and some reds over 20 inches long. Wow!

I guess those fish were hiding from me today. But that’s okay — I still had a fantastic day and can’t wait to go back out tomorrow.

What do you think I should do differently next time? Bring two nets? Try a new lure? Or maybe you have a secret fishing trick I should know?

Draw me a picture of the biggest fish you think I’ll catch on Day 2! I’ll tell you all about it soon.

Tight lines and big smiles!

Love,

Grandpa the Kayak Fisherman 🎣
