Hot Day in Texas and on Braunig Lake

Slow start to a warm morning with a fortunate stiff breeze blowing in our face.

Meet up with Salt Strong insider Bob Bickett this morning knowing it was projected to be another 100° plus Texas summer day. Fortunately as the temp started heating up, so did the redfish action. By about 10 o'clock all we had to show for ourselves was one channel cat, but the unusual thing about the catfish is I caught it trolling a spoon. Crazy! I headed over to a previous honey hole which didn't seem to do any good until Bob showed up about 30 minutes later. It wasn't long before I heard him yell he was hooked up, the fight was on! I made it over to him just as he measured out his new personal best (PB) redfish at 27". It seemed like only another 10 minutes or so when I heard him at again, this time it measured in at 30 3/4" another PB. Man were was my action? He went on to catch two more beauties measuring in at 27" and 28", he was flying high with epic action; catching four reds all bigger than his previous PB. Meanwhile I had pulled in a couple small reds, but the best part of the day at this point was watching Bob hit new heights. Then I had an exciting moment when I got a hit while trolling two different lures, fish on! While trying to keep the kayak moving somewhat straight and to keep the fish from crossing the other line I had out, I got a hit on the other line, two fish on! I landed both of them, two more under slot reds (smaller the the legal size limit). After a short while I landed one more, in slot, 24" redfish that I'll call dinner. Then we called it a day.
