Big Day on Braunig Lake

The day started out with unexpected weather, overcast skies and a surprisingly cool breeze in our face as we launch from the kayak ramp.

I had another blessed day with an opportunity to meet up with another Salt Strong member Bob Bickett to hit the water on Braunig Lake for some fellowship and hopefully fun fishing. The weather stayed unusually pleasant for this time of year remaining overcast or heavily clouded. While rarely getting a glimpse of the sun, we continued to enjoy the breeze which eventual became windy but keep a nice convection effect; we even got several misting showers to boot.  It was fortunate that the weather was pleasant, because the fishing was less than spectacular.  After getting there at the crack of dawn, we only had one fish between us by about 1300 and we were ready to wrap things up.  I decided to make one more pass across some underwater structure, while Bob plotted a course by the dam and then to the kayak launch area. While on me last pass I noticed fish on my electronics which encouraged me to make another pass over the structure. This time I saw more fish so I had to try one more time; what do they say, three times is a charm? “Pa Pow, fish on!” It was quite the fight and extremely intense while finagling two fishing pools as the second line I had out trolling ended up getting crossed over. Fighting a 33.5”, 15 lb. redfish in one hand, trying to reel in another line with the other and trying to turn on the GoPro while sitting in a kayak, epic! New personal best!
