April has been a Great Month on Braunig Lake

I've been able to get out several times to the lake and I'm racking up the stats. Fishing has been consistently good!

I was able to hit the lake six times and caught fish every time. I caught a total of 29 redfish, most caught in one day was 7 and the biggest of the month was 30 inches. I even had two double-ups (two fish at the same time) during the month; one of which, would have been a triple if one wouldn't have broke my line just before the third one hit. I try to avoid doubles in the kayak because sometimes it ends with something broken, lose or just a tangled mess; unfortunately, I can't resist doubling my I was able to hit the lake six times and caught fish every time.  I caught a total of 29 redfish, most caught in one day was 7 and the biggest of the month was 30 inches. I try to avoid doubles in the kayak because sometimes it ends with something broken, lose or just a tangled mess; unfortunately, I can't resist doubling my chances with two lines out. On my last outing I came up on a school of fish on the surface about a hundred yards of my bow, first time I seen activity like it on this lake. They were all over, fortunately the wind was calm and surface smooth so you could clearly see them swirling and boiling on the surface. As I moved within range I casted a third line into the school and fish on! I quickly realized I was in trouble with a fish on in front of me and trolling two line behind me. I couldn't backup as I might normally do to avoid spooking the school, because the lines behind me would get wrapped up in my prop drive. I tried holding my position, but that is easier said then done and before I knew it the school was around me. I tried retrieving one of the other lines to prevent tangles and/or multiple hook ups. Bam, another fish on! The third pole starts going and within seconds that line breaks as I'm trying to get it out of the rod holder. I placed it back down and while fighting the first fish I try to bring in the drifting line from the pole that just broke off. But hold on, the other pole still out starts going, third fish on! Fortunately I managed to get the drifting line in and land both of the remaining two fish. 🤪 One was 26" and one 28", WOW. The other double-up was earlier in the month and is captured on the video on this post and resulted in two 23" fish.
